The Bedroom, Actually Revealed

After I unintentionally turned a reveal post into a teaser, I figured I should probably pretty quickly turn around the photos of our "new" bedroom. Before the new pictures, let's take a look back at the room before. Here was the old queen sized bed, the mirror which was moved from the living room, two mismatched lamps, and the builder's eggshell paint on the walls. And two beagles on the bed. (Yes, those are storage boxes and suitcases under the bed.)

The other side of the room. Pretty blah.

And now for the grand reveal! Ta-da!

Let's start with the new bedding that got brought into the room:
-The new Simmons king sized mattress, box spring and frame - $1050 (including tax and delivery!)
-Down comforter, Ikea - $50
-Duvet cover and shams, Ikea - $50
-Two king sized pillows, Ikea - $20
-Two Laura Ashley king sized pillows, Home Goods - $25
-DKNY Sheets from HomeGoods - $40
-Blue and coral Euro pillow cover, clearance from Bed, Bath & Beyond - $10

Thanks to an Ikea birthday giftcard for my birthday from my wonderful in-laws, the comforter, duvet, and pillows were free!

Now for the other stuff added around the bed...
-Blue lamps, Ross - $30 each
-Decorative mirror (originally black, spray painted white with paint already owned), HomeGoods - $30

Here's another angle of the room. Here, you can see the new beginning of our frame gallery, curtains previously hung, Will's mom's old rocker, and the Indian blanket from my parents thrown over the back of it. Oh, and to the left of the large armoire...

I made my own art. I needed something on the other side of the armoire/TV to balance the space. So, I found some fabric I liked (kinda pricey at $29/yard, but I still have a bunch of fabric that may get worked into a couple of pillows) and two blank canvases on clearance at Ross for $6. A staple gun and fifteen minutes later, voila.

Gallery walls seem to be very en vogue right now with home improvement bloggers, but I love pictures, and love showing off A LOT of them. The main frame is filled with pictures of me and my dad that my mom made long ago.I got some coral colored paint from Home Depot and painted the old frame to update it. Most of the frames were bought at Target for under $10 each.

The exception is the one on the lower left side of the frame that has close-ups of the dogs. That I found at Goodwill for $1.97. It was a Pottery Barn frame that had likely never been used. The wooden mats were green and blue, so I just used the coral paint to change that.

Rough cost for the whole gallery wall including the frames, printing pictures, and paint, about $50.

And finally, over the dresser (to the right of the armoire/TV if that's not clear). The mirror was the one previously hung above the bed. It got a shot of white spray paint to the frame. The lamp, which I love, was found at Ikea for $50 but free after my aforementioned gift card.

Total cost of bedroom update: $1,470. (I'm considering the paint "free" since I bought it so long ago. Something about sunk costs...) Subtracting things purchased by gift card, $1,300. Not bad considering that includes an entirely new king sized bed!

I am really pleased with the way it has turned out. I have some plans to make a headboard, possibly tomorrow. The only other thing I'll continue to think about is adding more to the gallery wall and possibly updating our dressers and night stands with some paint/stain.

Great job! I think my favorite might be the blue lamps and the coral pillow. I'm jealous of the king size bed - that's next on our list...

Katie, the king size bed is glorious! ...especially if you have a husband that throws elbows. :)
