Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

Recently, I've found myself obsessed with mirrors. I think part of it is we only have windows on one side of the condo, and the mirrors help give the other walls a false sense of light. You remember the recent hallway project and my decorative mirror from HomeGoods. Prior to that, I actually picked up this one at Goodwill for about eight bucks. Yeah. Eight smackaroos for this big sucker.

If you've ever shopped for mirrors of a decent size, you know that eight dollars is crazy cheap. It's a decent size, but I'd envisioned something more substantial for this space. When I first bought it, I also had thoughts of painting it something other than the faux silvery-gold it is now. However, I think it's going to be transplanted into our bedroom and left in the same color. At least for now. And now, what took its place...

I found this mirror on a discount home website. Stick around to the end of the post, and I'll let you in on the deals as well! It's a Howard Elliott Collection mirror, which didn't mean much to me until I googled the name (looking for reviews) and found that it retails for over $400. !!!!!! No way would I pay that much for a mirror, but it was on sale for $100, and I had some store credit to go towards the balance. All in all, it came out to be just over $80 (including shipping) for a 48"x24" mirror framed beautifully in natural looking wood.

I particularly like the slightly inconsistent wood in the mirror. We have at least three wood finishes in the living room, and I think it helps tie it together. After three tries to hang it level (I measured multiple times prior to putting nails in the wall, I swear), I am really pleased with the way it looks on the wall. It's more proportionate to the  very long wall, and the thick wooden frame really helps break up ALL of the tan on that side of the room.

So what do you think? Want in on cheap home decor deals too? Check out The Foundary by following this link: http://www.thefoundary.com/invite/christinalmcnally I love it.

Now off to rehang the Goodwill mirror in our bedroom....

I really, really love that mirror. You're right - the weight of it is much more balanced than the first one.

If the $8 mirrors aren't big enough, you can get three of them and hang them vertically together so you have one big mirror effect. It's still only $24!
